Sohra (Cherrapunji)

Sohra, earlier known as Cherrapunjee, is one of the wettest places on Earth. Due to its wet climatic conditions, the vegetation remains lush and green, with blooms throughout the year, supporting rich and diverse wildlife habitats. Sohra is famous for its living root bridges, naturally formed from the roots of rubber fig trees. The sky never seems to remain the same—one moment, it is a perfect blue; the next, it turns golden yellow, casting the entire landscape in a dreamy palette of light and colour.

Interesting factCherrapunjee receives an average annual rainfall of around 450 inches (37.5 feet) and still holds the world record for the highest rainfall recorded in a single calendar year.
