The experience

A day rooted in place

Nongriat is famous for living root bridges of the banyan (Ficus elastica). The Double Decker is not to be missed — traditional Khasi architecture woven from one generation to the next until the bridge is complete.

Why TRIS chose it

The story behind the journey

These bridges can take 10–15 years to grow and get stronger every year. They can survive up to 500 years and support as many as 50 people at a time. To reach the Double Decker you walk roughly 3,000 steps down from Tyrna — and the same back up. Ahead lies the Rainbow Falls trail for those who want more.

FAQ

How hard is the trek?

Challenging for unfit walkers — thousands of stone steps down and up. Moderate fitness is enough if you take it slow.
